The best foods to eat with Candida. Well, Tom, this is going to be quite an interestingreply to your question because it's not just about what foods are the best foods to eatwith Candida. There are many different ways
we can answer the question and, unfortunately,many Candida diet websites, base a lot of their information around foods. Foods do forma very important consideration with yeast infections. But unfortunately, a lot of thesewebsites and sources of information don't contain the full picture. In fact, I'm absolutelystunned the longer I see patients, the more I realize that so many people can, in facteat fruit, can eat gluten, and can eat lots of bread. Even some patients can drink alcoholand still recover from a yeast infection. So there is no one law that comes down likea hammer that says, â€œYou shall not eat this. You shall not eat that.â€� But the guidelinesI'm going to give you now, Tom, will be based
on my experiences on many thousands of differentpatients. What I think works best for the general population. And I'll throw some moreinformation in along the line as we speak on situations other than foods.Let's just start by explaining a little bit about what is currently the whole idea withthe Candida diet. Most people will be quick to tell you that you've got to avoid anythingcontaining sugar or refined carbohydrates. That you've got to eat a diet that is quitehigh in proteins, preferably lean sources of protein and focus more on the green leafyvegetables. The general consensus is to avoid all forms of fruit and most forms of grain.In fact, it almost sounds a bit like a specific
carbohydrate kind of diet, doesn't it? It'sa paleoSCD diet combined. That's almost what this sounds like. There are no hard and fastrules, and I wrote about this extensively in Candida Crusher.However, when you're starting off with a Candida diet approach, the first thing I always getpeople to do is to do what I call a big clean up. So a big clean up means an assessmentof what you're currently eating, particularly if you haven't already made the changes towardthese types of foods, is to slowly wind down all your eating over a 14day period. By that,I mean cut out all forms of alcohol over a 14day period. Stop eating takeaway or refinedfoods, and start incorporating good foods
into the diet.What are the good foods? What are the best foods to eat when you've got a Candida yeastinfection? Well, the best foods are foods that support good digestion, that supportgood immune function, and that support the proliferation of beneficial bacteria in thedigestive system. They discourage dysbiotic bacteria and Candida, and they also discouragethe ability to the challenge the immune system. Because nearly all people with Candida haveleaky gut syndrome. They have intestinal permeability. Nearly all people I see with Candida haveSIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and all patients I see with Candida have gotstress, which increases permeability umpteen
times.Focus on high quality proteins in your diet. Proteins are important to eat, particularlyif you chew them really well. Chew them well. Before I put peoplethrough the three stages, I generally like
them to go through a big cleanup. So we'lltidy up the diet first. Generally, the lifestyle and diet need a bit of a tidy up when peopleget serious about revitalizing their digestive function. If they really want to get well,they need to make some changes, but I'm not about making changes very quick with people.I prefer that they slowly make change. Slow changes and generally over a period of many,many weeks will usually mean that new habits become formed. New lifestyle and dietary habitsbecome formed. Then when these become formed, slowly theybecome permanent in your life. And when these habits become permanent, it means that thesehealthy habits will ensure that you don't
get a repeat of the old symptoms and thatyou stay well for life. That, to me, is what it's all about. Not just eradicating symptomswith pills or eradicating symptoms with a diet, but building incredible health and wellnessthrough making life long permanent changes. That's what we're all about. Stage one of the Candida Crusher diet approach is calledthe MEVY diet, meat, eggs, vegetables and yogurt. Let's look at that. Let's look atwhat the MEVY diet or the stage one approach
really encompasses. The first thing we'vegot to do, of course, on the MEVY, which you should have already done on the big cleanup,is to get rid of all the processed and junk foods out of your diet. If I go to your refrigeratorand open it up, am I going to find lots of jars and bottles there with all sorts of sweetsauces or foods that have been in there for many days or even weeks, they all need togo into the garbage can. You need to get rid of all of those. Have a good look at yourpantry and your kitchen bench and your freezer and start making some changes there. All ofthese things could do with a big cleanup themselves. Cut back on the amount of foods that you buywhen you go out in terms of takeaway food.
Stopping off somewhere and buying a pizzaor getting donuts or getting foods that are highly processed, you need to stop these habits.Because these are the habits that are not going to be really good if you want to recoverfrom a yeast infection or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, what we call SIBO. SIBOand Candida often go hand in hand. Avoid white sugar, white flour, soda drinks, takeawayfoods, beer, alcohol, wine, and all these sorts of things in general. Any kind of candiesor chocolates. These things all need to go. They just don't form any place in the digestivesystem if you want to recover from Candida. Include liberal amounts of fresh, unprocessed,and nutritional foods.
