The fungal steering system a route to infection
Most of us are aware of infectionscaused by bacteria, but what we don't think about is infections caused byfungi. One of the biggest killers is the fungus Candida albicans which livesinside us as a harmless round yeast. But in patients with a weak immunesystem the fungus can escape into the bloodstream where it forms tiny threadlike filaments. These filaments bury down into the tissue below and can form fatalinfections that are very hard to treat in internal organs like the kidney. We areinvestigating what makes Candida albicans so good at invading the humanbody something most fungi cannot do.
What we've found is that these microscopic filaments have a sense of direction and they can steer as they grow. This meansthat when they become adhered to our skin or our blood vessels, their filaments can probe to find weak points and invade the tissue underneath. Our research aim is tofind ways to disable this steering process because without it the funguscannot invade. If we can do this and halt this process we should be able to savemillions of lives every year.
Is Acidophilus Good For Candida
Greetings. It's Eric Bakker, naturopath fromNew Zealand, author of Candida Crusher and formulator of the Canxida range of dietarysupplements. Thanks for checking out this tutorial today. Today, we're going to talk aboutacidophilus, lactobacillus acidophilus, in particular, a very beneficial strain of bacteria.I've got an email here from a guy called Mark in Ontario, Canada, asking me if lactobacillusis good for Candida in general. It's very, very good using lactobacillus, Mark. It's a very good idea to use a probiotic when you have got a yeast infection. Beneficialbacteria are one of our most powerful defense mechanisms in terms of keeping our gut inbalance, in really good shape. And there are
different strains of beneficial bacteria thatwe're not really going to go into on this tutorial, but I think that including a fermentedand cultured food is a very clever idea to incorporate into your diet on a regular basis. But even more important is to take good probiotics at least once, if not twice, per day on anextended basis to help to repopulate your gut with very beneficial bacteria.Candida are normally occurring organisms in the digestive system of many people and alsoin the vaginal area of women. Some estimates are 20 to 30 percent of women have this normallyoccurring and a lot of men have got Candida growing in different parts of their body aswell, which is a normal organism. But however,
it's when the balance becomes tipped. Whenthe Candida gain the upper hand and they really take off. That's when we start to get problems. You could liken the lactobacillus species to being like the police of the digestivesystem. They will keep the bad guys in check. They secrete various kinds of chemicals todo that. They produce something called hydrogen peroxide and they secrete acidophilin anddifferent chemicals with funny names that help to keep these bad guys around them ina correct kind of balance. When the numbers of lactobacillus drop off, we start to getproblems because we're going to get bacteria and potentially yeasts like Candida albicansand various other Candida species that can
start getting the upper hand and that's notwhat we want. Because this can create a huge shift in our gut and create a lot of problemswith many other parts of the body. By consuming a good yogurt, for example. Idid a tutorial recently on a yogurt called Activia by a company called Danone. That's not a badyogurt; however, it's got predominantly bifida bacteria in it. So taking a good probiotic,Mark, I think is worth mentioning. Something that contains multiple strains of lactobacillusis a very good idea. Lactobacillus plantarum or lactobacillus rhamnosus are two of thebetter lactobacillus strains to have in your digestive system on a daily basis for severalmonths to help to counter Candida.
These in particular are very good strainsbecause they boost lots of different aspects of your immune function. It's also importantto make sure that your probiotic contains the bifida bacteria as well, preferably oneor two strains. Having a lacto and bifida high quality capsule with a dosage of at least10 billion per cap, if not more, is a clever idea long term to seed the gut, to put thebacteria in there and then, again, to eat the right kind of foods to make sure thatwe're going to feed these guys up. Mark, just check out my Canxida Restore. It'sa product I think you'll like. I've designed this product and put it in a very specialcapsule that will only open up inside the
small intestine, so it's going to make surethat implantation takes place in the right area. A very easy to take capsule and highlyeffective. To answer your question is lactobacillus acidophilusgood for Candida. It's very, very good to have. Most people I do stool testing on, infact, have got low levels of these bacteria. So by taking a probiotic and eating yogurton a regular basis, you're going to ensure that you're going to get sufficient amountsover a period of time. Thank you for your question, Mark.
